The Board of Directors and the Executive Director
of the Sierra Association of Foster Families 
are grateful for the generous grant funding awarded by the

Frank M. and Gertrude R. Doyle Foundation.

Mr. and Mrs. Doyle's incredible philanthropy have allowed us at SAFF to create a unique and viable educational program for the children and teens in Washoe County's foster care systemwho are either temporarily residing with substitute parents in foster homes or remaining in the foster care system while transitioning to life with their birth parent(s) under court supervision.

Each day, these disadvantaged children and teens receive In-Home/After School Academic Tutoring in the subjects of English, Writing, Spelling, Math, History, Science, Government, Spanish.

Why is academic tutoring so important to and for the children and teens in the foster care program? 

Because such youth are generally 2-4 grade levels behind their classmates, foster care teens are the highest demographic population for dropping out of school, and 70% of adults in federal and state prisons are former foster youth with no high school diplomas.

The Frank M. and Gertrude R. Doyld Foundation
makes it possible for hundreds of children and teens each year to receive the educational benefits needed to help them grow into successful and healthy young adults and break the cycles of homelessness, crime, violence, and incarceration that result from dropping out of school.
