NEW ! CD-ROM ON MEDICALLY FRAGILE KIDS NEEDING HOMES
SAFF has received generous funding from the Leonette Foundation and Terry Lee Wells Foundation in Reno to produce and distribute a new CD-Rom focusing on recruiting and training foster and adoptive parents of medically fragile and terminally ill children needing homes. Helping to film this important project is a talented film maker with NBC. Without foster and adoptive homes, many medically fragile children will live their lives in institutional settings; but with the overwhelmingly kind hearts and strong minds of foster and adoptive parents, these children and teens will be offered a life of family care and love. TEENS DETERMINED TO SUCCEED! is an exciting program designed and facilitated by the SAFF staff. This unique one-of-a kind project in Nevada is based on the Four Step Education and Prevention Process whereby foster teens participate and benefit by 1) selecting issues, 2) designing and performing group discussions and projects which have meaningful influences, 3) promoting the teen's good and healthy reputation throughout the community, 4) celebrating the success of a creative outcome rather than suffering the consequences of a negative outcome.
Components of the program are
STRATEGY AND TACTICS TEEN SUPPORT GROUP
ENHANCING COMMUNITY SERVICE
ARTS-IN-EDUCATION
ADOLESCENT JOB AND EDUCATION EXPLORATION
AFTER-SCHOOL ACADEMIC TUTORING
FOSTERING THE FUTURE INDEPENDENT LIVING AND ADVANCED TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT COURSES
This program was initially developed with generous funding from the E.L. Cord Foundation, and developed with additional funding from the Chafee Fund and a generous grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation.
We are excited to announce a wonderful new partnership between SAFF and ONCE UPON A CHILD!
This popular store has gently used (and some new) children's clothing, shoes, toys, books, cribs, strollers and equipment. New Manager, Toni Arden, has agreed to donate some of her overflow inventory to SAFF (she also contributes to the Pregnancy Center). You will receive an announcement (via email) when donated items are available at the SAFF Office. Also if a Foster Parent has a particular need they can contact her through a SAFF Board Member and she will try to fill it!
Please check out this great store and, when you are in there, please thank Toni and the Staff for their support of SAFF and for caring about Foster Families.
Foster Parents will still pay full price for items in the store. Free items will only be available at the SAFF Office.
ONCE UPON A CHILD is located at 4040 Kietzke Lane next to MyGym |
